1992 Dyna Daytona Build | Harley Performance Parts
Some bikes don’t need to be completely reinvented—they just need the right parts to bring out their full potential. That was the case for this 1992 Dyna Daytona which came to us with a clean stock setup, solid bones and timeless style. From the start, we knew this build deserved an approach that respected the original character while giving it a more aggressive stance, improved ride quality, stronger braking performance, and a cleaner overall finish.
The goal with this project was simple: modernize the performance, sharpen the handling, and enhance the look without losing what makes a Dyna special. We focused on carefully selected upgrades that would improve the bike where it matters most:
- Performance
- Suspension
- Control and comfort
- Braking
- Lighting
- Overall Look
The result is a bike that still feels true to its roots, but now carries a much stronger visual presence and a noticeably upgraded riding experience.
Upgraded Suspension for a Better Ride
For this bike we started with suspension. Upfront we went with the Race Tech 39mm Complete Front End Suspension Kit.
This kit is designed to improve comfort and performance of the forks, giving the bike a smoother ride. We paired them with the OG 1" Fork Tube extension to add some height to the front end setup.
In the back, we installed RWD RS-2 Polished/Chrome Performance Shocks, which instantly sharpened the rear of the bike both visually and functionally.
Improved Braking Performance
Stopping power matters just as much as acceleration and handling, and this build received a major brake upgrade with Galfer rotors in the front and rear as well as fresh new Galfer Semi-Metallic pads.
- Galfer 11.5" Stainless Steel Front Brake Rotor
- Galfer 11.5" Stainless Steel Rear Brake Rotor
- Galfer Semi-Metallic Front Brake Pads
These upgrades improve braking performance while adding a crisp, clean visual element to both wheels. The stainless rotors help modernize the bike’s appearance and pair well with the rest of the polished and chrome components used throughout the build.
Handlebar Setup: Clean, Functional, and Aggressive
The riser and handlebar setup can make or break the feel of a bike, and this one came together exactly right. We installed Thrashin Supply Chrome 6.5" risers with their 1" chrome extensions, paired with Thrashin's Chrome High Bend Handlebars. This setup gives the bike a more commanding riding position while adding the right amount of height and attitude.
To complete the controls, we used the Drag Specialties Chrome Handlebar Control Kit, along with ODI Black/Silver Ruffian Grips and Magnum Shielding Black Pearl cable lines. These parts help clean up the front end while also improving rider feel and overall fitment.
The combination is functional, comfortable, and visually balanced. It gives the rider a more modern control layout while still fitting the style of the build.
Lighting
Adding proper lighting to this bike was important for both aesthetics and visibility on the road. The A10 Moto 3.5-inch Narrow Fork Mount allowed us to mount the Clear LP6 Baja light on this Dyna. We wanted to keep the front end as clean as possible so for turn signals we installed the Joker Machine Rat Eye turn signals using Arlen Ness Custom Turn Signal Mounts. They are low profile, but still bright on the road.
At the rear, we installed a Custom Dynamics Low Profile LED Tail Light that has integrated turn signals, again keeping the tail section of the bike clean yet functional.
Drivetrain Upgrades
The rear drivetrain is another area where function and appearance come together.
For this build we used the HardDrive 48-tooth steel rear sprocket paired with an EK 530 Gold Series ZVX3 sealed chain.
The steel sprocket provides the durability we wanted for the bike, while the gold EK chain adds just enough contrast to stand out against the polished and chrome components.
Chain-drive conversions and upgraded final-drive components have become increasingly popular on performance-oriented Dyna builds because of their strength, serviceability, and aggressive appearance.
Air Intake & Exhaust
The polished and chrome finishes throughout the build help tie everything together, creating a cohesive appearance without going over the top. For exhaust, we went with the SP Concepts Polished Lanesplitter for several reasons; including performance, sound and style. We have used SPC pipes on several in-house builds as well as customer bikes and always received solid feedback. We love the look, sound and performance these pipes give to the bikes.
The Original Garage OG Round Honeycomb Air Cleaner cover was mounted over the existing air cleaners. The design of the cover and the chrome finish adds that touch of detail that really enhancing this bike.
Final Touches
Keeping to the performance style, the Saddlemen Step Up Full LS Seat looks great on this bike. We also swapped the front and rear pegs to the Thrashin Supply Chrome P-54. They match the style and overall look.
One of the objectives with this build was to avoid adding components that looked out of place on an early-1990s Harley. We always appreciate builds like this because they remind us that a motorcycle doesn’t have to lose its original identity to become something special. This Daytona still feels like a classic, but now it rides, handles, and presents itself at a completely different level.
This 1992 Dyna Daytona is ready to hit the road. The timeless style remains but now the performance is there for the rider to enjoy.
