Vulcan Works Timken Sealed Rear Wheel Bearing Kit for Harley-Davidson
Upgrade your early Harley-Davidson rear wheel from traditional tapered wheel bearings to modern sealed bearings with the Vulcan Works Sealed Rear Wheel Bearing Kit. Designed for compatible 1974-1999 Harley-Davidson rear wheels, this kit eliminates the routine greasing, packing and shimming required by the original tapered bearing setup.
This version features premium Timken-brand sealed wheel bearings for dependable performance and long service life. Vulcan Works engineered the kit with the correct bearing press fit so the bearings remain securely located in the wheel hub rather than moving or sliding inside the bore.
The included inner spacer is sized to maintain the same bearing spacing as the original tapered bearing wheel, allowing the existing axle spacer configuration to be retained on compatible applications. External wheel seals are also included to provide additional protection against water, dirt and road debris.
Once installed, the conversion provides a simpler, lower-maintenance sealed bearing arrangement similar to later Harley-Davidson wheel designs while retaining the original 3/4" axle configuration.
Fitment
Fits compatible 1974-1999 Harley-Davidson rear wheels originally equipped with tapered / Timken-style wheel bearings.
Sportster: Fits compatible XL Sportster rear wheels within the applicable year range.
Dyna: Fits compatible Dyna rear wheels through 1999.
FXR: Fits compatible FXR rear wheels using the original tapered bearing configuration.
Softail: Fits compatible Harley-Davidson Softail rear wheels using 3/4" tapered wheel bearings.
Touring / Bagger: Fits compatible early Harley-Davidson Touring and Bagger rear wheels using the tapered bearing setup.
Aftermarket Wheels: Fits compatible aftermarket rear wheels designed around the same Harley-Davidson tapered bearing dimensions.
Additional Front Wheel Fitment: Vulcan Works also lists this kit for compatible 1984-1999 Touring, Softail and FXDWG Wide Glide front wheels using the same bearing configuration.
Important: This kit replaces the original tapered bearings with sealed bearings but does not convert the wheel for installation on a 2000-Up motorcycle. Additional axle spacer components are required when adapting an early wheel to a later sealed-bearing chassis.
