The Icon 1000 Squalborn is the latest jacket addition to Icon's 1000 lineup. It's built in Icon's Sport Fit style that most modern riders will appreciate - not too baggy, not too lose - and available in one color - a dark olive green that's subtle enough to work for plenty of riders. Taking in the Squalborn overall, it looks like a pretty simple jacket, but Icon really packed in the features to make this jacket one to consider.

To start, the Squalborn is fully waterproof, from the shell to the sleeves to the zippers and pockets. Generously sized armpit vents provide two-way zippers to let the air flow while you ride. You'll also notice the back has black stretch panels that allow that extra bit of movement needed in the shoulders and upper arms. Move up the shoulders from there and you get patterned leather accents to top things off. At the bottom of the jacket you'll also find adjustable waist snaps for a tighter or looser fit.

Moving back to the front we'll take a closer look at the front pockets - designed with Aquaguard zippers and fully seamed with DWR coating to resist water if you get caught out in the rain. The waterproof theme continues in the sleeves, where you'll find DWR coated zipper expansion if it helps taking your gloves on or off - or if you want to let a little air in.

The YKK front zipper also features that coating to keep out the elements - open it up and you'll find a brighter insulated satincore green vest liner. It's easily removable by way of a full zip liner if you don't need that extra warmth.

Without the liner, you'll find a few more options in the interior. An internal zip pocket gives you a spot to stash items inside, while an open mesh pocket and a few more small pocket slots help out with some basic storage as well. Mesh is incorporated into armpit area so when you unzip in warmer temperatures the air will flow. The Squalborn also includes a full D30 Impact Protection setup with the jacket - you'll get protection in the shoulders, elbows and back - and note that you can adjust the elbow armor into three different internal slots if you prefer different positioning for max comfort.

The Icon 1000 Squalborn Jacket is a welcome addition to the Icon mix. For riders who prefer a more understated retro motorcycle jacket that still packs in modern features and the all important waterproof factor, it's well worth consideration.
