Klock Werks Windshield Comparison - 2020 Harley Road Glide
So you're tired of the stock Harley windshield or you need a little more coverage or maybe just want something sportier looking. Follow below for some helpful tip when selecting your next windshield purchase.
We took a few of Klock Werks most popular windshields and installed them on our shop 2020 Road Glide so you guys could see the difference and why you might choose a specific height or style.
Mike was our model for this demo - he is 5' 10". All the windshields used were a Dark Smoke tint.
So first thing you really want to decide is what is most important to you. Do you want more coverage or do you mainly care about how it looks for style. Klock Werks has a really great design with their Flare windshield that re-routes air away from the rider and adds downforce to the front end to improve stability and handling compared to the stock windshield.
If style is the most important aspect and you want the shortest shield available, you will loose some coverage while riding. If you take long rides and do a lot of highway riding, we would recommend going with a taller shield or one of Klock Werks Pro-Touring shields. On the flip side if you prefer shorter trips with minimal high speed travel you should be fine with a shorter shield
It's important to note: These shields are designed to be looked over - not through. They will distort you perception when looked through.
First shield we installed on the Road Glide was the Klock Werks 6" Sport Flare Windshield.
This windshield definitely has a sportier look, but will not provide much coverage at higher speeds. Also, Mike's line of sight is high above the top of the shield so he could easily install a taller windshield if he wanted.
Next we installed the Klock Werks 9" Sport Flare Windshield.
This shield still has a sportier look and will provide more coverage compared to the 6". Note Mike's eye level is still above the windshield so he would have no issues using this shield.
Next size up, which is also the tallest Sport Flare option currently available, the Klock Werks 14" Sport Flare shield.
As you can see, this option would provide a significant amount of coverage. Depending on Mike's comfort, this shield is close to his line of sight. It is slightly high, so we would most likely recommend he stay with the 9". While the 14" might not be as sporty looking as the 6" or the 9" it still features a more aggressive style compared to some of the other options currently on the market.
Finishing out the Flare windshields, we installed both the 12" and 15" Pro-Touring shields to give you an idea of what a 3" difference really looks like.
First up, the 12" Klock Werks Pro-Touring Flare Windshield (again in the Dark Smoke)
The Pro Touring Flare windshield offers a wider, more full-coverage option for riders and passengers that need wind protection during long-haul touring. High Speed wind buffeting is no fun when you're on the road for hours at a time. This shield would work for Mike at his current height, as long he is comfortable with it being slightly close to his line of sight.
And lastly the Klock Werks 15" Pro-Touring Flare shield.
You can see this is definitely the most full coverage option. Unfortunately, Mike's line of sight is at the very top of the shield and is most likely interfering with his view of the road. We would not recommend this shield for him. However, if you were a taller individual this would be a great option for you.
Hopefully this was helpful if you were unsure about which shield option would be the best for you. To shop the full line-up of Klock Werks windshield click HERE.
