Hey, it's Mike from Get Lowered with our review of the new Biltwell Lane Splitter Helmet. As you can see it's a completely new look from Biltwell and follows the popularity of aggressive throwback helmets like the Simpson lineup, among others. That said, Biltwell gives their own twist on the moto style helmet, and does it well with the Lane Splitter.

The Lane Splitter fits similar to Biltwell's Gringo and Gringo S - we found you should be able to wear the same size in both helmets. Air flow was solid - Biltwell equipped the Lane Splitter with front, side and rear vents that keep the air circulating. Field of vision was solid with a nice wide eyeport and a D-Ring button chin strap keeps the helmet secure against your head. Biltwell also added mesh pockets to their cheek pads if you want to drop in a communication system.

The visor is easy to operate and stays in the flipped position well while you move. A brass peg and hole configuration keeps it locked in place if you want it down.

Take a closer look at the vents you'll see Biltwell made sure to give this retro helmet plenty of airflow. The front, side and rear vents look good and also do their job - it's an important detail that the Lane Splitter didn't miss.

Removal of the guts of the helmet is simple, unsnapping with relative ease if you need to wash the interior or give it some air. Inside you'll find a padded chin bar, a pair of cheek pads and the hand-stitched, shock-absorbing EPS liner. You'll also notice built-in channels in the inner shell that funnel air out through the rear vent of the helmet.

We took a look at the Flat Silver finish in a size large, which weighed in at 3 lbs. 5 oz. There will be a total of 7 hand-painted finishes released, including Flat Silver, Bronze Metallic, Flat Black, Flat Titanium, Gloss Black, Gloss Blood Red and Gloss White. Biltwell will also have replacement shield options available in different colors and tints.

One final note - we reviewed the DOT version of the helmet but Biltwell plans to fully release the Lane Splitter with both DOT and ECE approval later in the year. Per Biltwell, the only physical difference will be that the laser-cut face shield in the DOT model will be replaced with an injection-molded face shield.

Like every product, we'll include fast, free domestic shipping with the Lane Splitter helmet anywhere in the Lower 48 states.
